Frequently Asked Questions
What are the system requirements for BacXup?
We recommend a PC with USB 2.0 ports for the hardware requirements. To utilize the Acronis software you will need to have Windows 2000, any version of Windows XP or Windows Vista. Older PCs with USB 1.1 ports may work, but transfer times will greatly increase. Of course your PC will need a CD or DVD writer if you want to create an Acronis boot disk as mentioned below.
If my Windows hard drive fails, how do I restore everything?
When you first install the software for BacXup you will have the option to create an Acronis boot CD, which you should do immediately with your CD writer. After installing a new hard disk drive into your PC you should place the Acronis boot CD into your optical disk drive and then power on the PC with the BacXup system connected. Your PC will boot from the CD to the Acronis software and allow you to recover your most recent system image onto the new drive. Reboot your PC after removing the CD and you are back to Windows, your programs, settings and data exactly as your PC was when you backed it up.
Can I use my BacXup unit as additional storage for my PC?
Yes. You can access it as you would any other external hard drive... If your backup drive is about full you can easily delete the older backups to make more room for files or new backup images. If you would rather not use your backup drive, you just drop in another hard disk, initialize and format it and you have its full capacity as additional storage on your PC.
I already own a USB hard drive, could I purchase the BacXup software?
No. The Acronis software we bundle with our HDD docks is an OEM version and can only be sold with the hardware portion of the BacXup or with a new PC as customized by Integrated Technologies Inc. We can quote a retail version for you if you contact us.
